Sometimes, there’s more inside than what comes out.
Spelling to Communicate, or S2C, is a way for nonspeaking and minimally speaking individuals to share their thoughts by pointing to letters on a board. Many individuals understand far more than they are able to express with speech. S2C offers another path for those thoughts to be seen and heard.
It’s not about intelligence, it’s about access.
For many people, the challenge isn’t knowing what to say, but getting the body to cooperate. Speech can be unreliable, even when the mind is clear. S2C focuses on helping individuals build control and consistency so they can communicate more intentionally over time.
At its heart, this is about communication.
At its heart, S2C is about connection. It begins with the belief that every person has something to say. As communication grows, so does confidence, independence, and the ability to be truly known.
Why S2C matters
When someone cannot rely on speech, the world often underestimates them. S2C starts from a different place: we presume competence. We believe nonspeaking individuals deserve access to communication, meaningful learning, and the chance to show who they really are.
Through consistent practice, students build the motor skills needed to point, spell, and communicate more reliably. The goal is not just spelling, it’s self-expression, autonomy, and connection.
